It’s just speculation,” governor says amid swirling succession talk
Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has firmly denied endorsing any of the 28 gubernatorial aspirants eyeing his seat ahead of the 2027 elections, dismissing widespread rumors as “pure speculation.”
Speaking on Thursday in Lafia while hosting members of the Forum of Former Local Government Council Chairmen (FFLGCC) and the Forum of Former Local Government Councillors (FFLGC), Governor Sule said he remains neutral in the unfolding political race—insisting his only priority is to ensure that his successor can sustain the state’s current momentum.
“If anyone tells you I’m backing this person or that person, it’s just grammar,” Sule said. “They said I was supporting the Accountant General, then it was Wadada, and later Faisal. If the story keeps changing, clearly there’s no truth in it.”
The governor emphasized that his eventual support—if any—would be based solely on competence and the ability to build on the “giant strides” of his administration.
“We have laid the foundation for significant development. Our work is far from finished, but we’ve created real opportunities for growth, especially in internal revenue generation and investment,” he said. “Only a candidate who understands the state’s enormous potential will earn my backing.”
Governor Sule also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to policies and programs that directly impact the people of Nasarawa, noting that his leadership is focused on long-term progress, not short-term politics.
Earlier in the meeting, leaders of the two forums—Musa Adamu Sa’idu and Hashimu Abubakar—commended the governor for what they described as inclusive governance and visionary leadership. They pledged continued loyalty and support for his administration’s success.
As the political climate in Nasarawa begins to heat up ahead of 2027, Sule’s declaration is expected to shape the tone of the coming months, especially within the ruling party.
