Armed bandits have killed at least 16 farmers and wounded 13 others after attacking farmlands in Goron Namaye District of Maradun Local Government Area in Nigeria’s northwestern Zamfara State, according to local sources.
The assailants reportedly invaded the farming community and opened fire on farmers working in their fields, leaving multiple casualties in one of the deadliest recent attacks in the area. The injured were said to have been evacuated for medical treatment, while residents fled in panic amid fears of further violence.
The latest bloodshed underscores the persistent insecurity plaguing Zamfara State, where armed groups have continued to launch deadly raids on rural communities, targeting farmers, travellers and villages despite ongoing security operations.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the attack as security forces continue efforts to restore calm in the affected community.
