President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally welcomed Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, into the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a boost to the party’s growing national strength and unity.
Speaking during a meeting with APC leaders in Abuja, President Tinubu said the party remains firmly anchored on the leadership of its elected governors, stressing that APC governors are the undisputed leaders of the party in their respective states.
The President noted that Governor Kefas’ decision to join the ruling party reflects confidence in the APC-led federal government and its reform agenda, adding that the party is open to leaders who share its vision for national development, stability and inclusive governance.
“Our governors are the backbone of the party at the state level. They understand the local realities and must be allowed to lead and coordinate party affairs in their states,” Tinubu said.
Governor Kefas, who expressed appreciation for the warm reception, pledged his commitment to the principles and programmes of the APC, saying his defection was driven by the need to align Taraba State more closely with the centre for accelerated development.
APC national leaders present at the meeting described the development as a strategic gain ahead of future political engagements, noting that the party continues to consolidate its influence across the federation.
The President urged party members to remain united and focused on governance, emphasising that internal cohesion is critical to delivering on the promises made to Nigerians.
