The anti-government slogan “Tinubu Must Go” reverberated across the venue of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential campaign flag-off in Sokoto on Wednesday, as opposition supporters voiced fierce opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The chants echoed repeatedly among supporters gathered along Illorin Road in the Sokoto metropolis, where the party’s presidential candidate, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, was expected to address the massive crowd.
Many of the attendees, who reportedly traveled from various parts of the state, used the slogan to demand political change and an immediate end to the current administration’s policies. The protest cry also underscored broader public grievances over mounting economic hardships and persistent security challenges across the country.
The rally served as a platform for the ADC to mobilize its base and launch its political messaging as opposition parties ramp up activities ahead of the 2027 polls. The event highlights the party’s aggressive push to expand its grassroots support in Sokoto State and mount a serious challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, as of the time of filing this report, the ADC campaign train had yet to arrive at the venue from the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, heavily delayed by the massive crowds that lined the route to welcome the candidate.
The Sokoto event marks a major milestone in the party’s nationwide mobilization strategy as the race for the presidency intensifies.
