President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC), a new high-level body charged with steering the rollout of Nigeria’s sweeping tax reforms.
The committee will be chaired by tax and economic expert Mr Joseph Tegbe, under the supervision of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun. Its mandate is to translate the government’s new tax laws into effective, practical action through close collaboration with stakeholders across both the public and private sectors.
Mr Tegbe will lead a multidisciplinary team that includes Mrs Sanyade Okoli as Secretary, as well as Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El-Rufai, and several other professionals drawn from finance, law, and civil society.
Announcing the committee, President Tinubu stressed that the new tax framework is central to his administration’s drive to build “a fair, transparent, and modern tax system” capable of stimulating economic growth while safeguarding citizens and businesses.
The NTPIC is expected to undertake extensive nationwide consultations, expand public awareness efforts, improve inter-agency coordination, and ensure that the reforms boost government revenue, curb leakages, and reinforce the long-term stability of Nigeria’s economy.
