President Bola Tinubu has approved the renaming and revitalisation of the Institute of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna, transforming it into the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology.
The decision, announced on Friday, is part of efforts to reposition the institution as a specialised centre for geological sciences, engineering and petroleum-related studies while expanding its academic scope.
The federal government said the university is being named in honour of the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua in recognition of his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and his role in shaping the country’s modern political landscape.
The move is expected to strengthen specialised education and research in the energy, mining and engineering sectors while preserving the legacy of one of Nigeria’s most influential statesmen.
