The Federal Polytechnic, Idah, has officially banned all student sign-out ceremonies, a tradition typically observed after graduation or semester examinations. The decision, aimed at curbing disruptive behavior, was announced on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in a statement by the Dean of Student Affairs, F.E. Omagu.

The polytechnic’s management stated that the ban was a direct response to the “unruly behavior” often displayed by students and their guests during these celebrations. Such activities, which include signing on shirts, pouring water, spraying money, reckless motorcycle/vehicle rides, and excessive noise/jubilation, have been deemed unacceptable within the campus and the surrounding community.
“The ban on the so-called sign-out ceremony by the students… and any other activities considered inappropriate within the campus and the area of polytechnic jurisdiction by the management still stands,” the statement read.

The institution issued a stern warning that any individual or group, including their guests, found defying this directive will face appropriate disciplinary action. Students have been advised to conclude their academic programs calmly and peacefully.

While implementing the ban, the management also extended its congratulations to the students on the successful completion of their second-semester examinations, wishing them positive outcomes.
In the past, these ceremonies have unfortunately led to instances of violence and property destruction, disrupting peace on campus and within the polytechnic community, and consequently damaging the institution’s image. This new directive seeks to prevent such occurrences moving forward.
