In a major political development ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections, Aminu Tambuwal has announced he will not seek another term representing the Sokoto South Senatorial Zone in the National Assembly.
The former governor of Sokoto State instead threw his weight behind Faruk Malami Yabo, endorsing him as the consensus candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the senatorial seat.
The move is widely seen as a strategic political transition by Tambuwal, a key figure in northern Nigerian politics, whose influence has continued to shape the political direction of Sokoto State even after his tenure as governor.
In a related development, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, who served as deputy governor under Tambuwal’s administration, has emerged as the ADC’s consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election in the state.
The twin endorsements signal an early consolidation of forces within the ADC in Sokoto, as opposition parties begin positioning themselves ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested electoral cycle.
