The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has defended Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against criticism over the country’s worsening insecurity, arguing that the president has fulfilled his constitutional responsibility by directing the nation’s security forces.
Speaking during the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, DC, on June 23, Adeboye said it would be unrealistic to expect the president to personally confront armed groups on the battlefield.
“He has done his bit,” the cleric said, maintaining that Tinubu’s role is to provide leadership and issue directives to the military, rather than participate in combat operations.
Tinubu has faced mounting criticism over persistent attacks by armed groups, kidnappings and violence across several parts of Nigeria since assuming office in May 2023. His administration has repeatedly pledged to strengthen security and intensify military operations against insurgents and criminal gangs.
Adeboye’s remarks come amid growing public debate over the government’s handling of the country’s security challenges, with many Nigerians urging stronger action to stem the violence.
