The strategic defence collaboration between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of India was further reinforced on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, during a courtesy visit by the Indian Defence Adviser to Nigeria, Colonel Manoj Singh, to the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.
The meeting underscored a shared commitment to advancing bilateral defence relations. Colonel Singh commended the Nigerian Army for its unwavering dedication and operational successes in addressing multifaceted security challenges nationwide. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to enhancing defence cooperation through expanded training programs, technical exchanges, and mutual capacity-building initiatives in areas of shared strategic interest.
In his response, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, expressed his appreciation for India’s steadfast support and emphasized the critical importance of the longstanding partnership between the two nations. He highlighted the need to deepen collaboration in key areas such as counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, defence equipment support, and professional military such cooperation is essential for repositioning the armed forces for greater operational effectiveness and regional stability.
The occasion was marked by the exchange of souvenirs as a gesture of goodwill and the mutual desire to sustain and strengthen defence ties. The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ book and a commemorative group photograph.
