The South West Democratic Agenda for Tinubu 2027 has urged Finance Minister Wale Edun to resign, accusing him of overseeing a historic zero percent capital budget performance under the current administration.

Otunba Adedayo Adewole, president of the pressure group, stated, “Until this moment, capital budget performance under this administration is at zero. This has never happened in our country before. Wale Edun should resign and go home because he has failed completely in his responsibility to the nation.”

Despite substantial borrowing domestically and internationally, the federal government has yet to implement the 2025 Appropriation Act or begin servicing domestic debts as Nigeria nears the final quarter of the year, the group lamented.

“A zero percent performance means zero progress. Nigerians are stranded while their government claims to be in charge,” Adewole said, emphasising that capital projects such as roads, hospitals, and power are the heartbeat of effective governance.

The group criticised the slow budget execution compared to previous administrations, noting: “The administration before this, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, was able to implement its own budget. Under Edun, Nigeria is drifting without any fiscal anchor.”

Adewole also held the National Assembly accountable, warning that lawmakers must not shield Edun from responsibility. “If the legislature allows this failure to pass without consequence, then it too will be complicit in the betrayal of Nigerians,” he said.

While reaffirming loyalty to President Tinubu, the group urged the president to take urgent action. “Mr. President must remember that Nigerians voted for him, not for Wale Edun. The people’s mandate is not a license for failure. We therefore call on the president to replace Edun with someone capable of implementing bold, practical, and immediate fiscal solutions.”

The pressure group concluded, “If Edun remains, the suffering of Nigerians will remain. If Edun goes, then perhaps a new dawn can begin.
