Sokoto’s government has confirmed a joint Nigerian–U.S. airstrike on terrorist camps in Tangaza Local Government Area, reporting no civilian deaths.
Abubakar Bawa, the state’s Director-General of Media and Publicity, said the raid happened on Wednesday and is part of a broader push to break up bandit and terror cells along the northwestern border. Full battle-damage checks are still under way, he added.
“The impact of the airstrike could not be immediately determined as assessment reports from the Joint Operations are still being awaited,” the Friday statement noted. Investigators are also looking at suspicious items found near Jabo town, Tambuwal LGA, and have handed the matter to the Nigeria–U.S. team.
Bawa stressed that, so far, “no civilian casualties were recorded” in either Tangaza or Jabo and asked locals to keep cooperating with security services.
The government welcomed outside help against cross-border crime, saying it has “consistently supported security agencies … by providing necessary equipment to enhance safety across the state.”
The confirmation backs an earlier SaharaReporters story that the two nations hit “terrorist hotspots” in Sokoto. President Bola Tinubu’s administration says it green-lit the mission.
Residents were urged to stay calm, keep praying, and let investigators finish their work.
