Iranian authorities have confirmed the death of senior official Ali Larijani, marking one of the most significant blows to the country’s leadership amid an escalating regional conflict.

Larijani, a key figure in Iran’s political and security establishment, was killed in what officials and reports describe as a targeted air strike. His death comes at a time of heightened tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States, with the region already on edge following weeks of military escalation.

A former speaker of parliament and head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Larijani was widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the Islamic Republic, playing central roles in national security strategy, diplomacy and nuclear negotiations.

His killing underscores the deepening intensity of the conflict, in which several high-ranking Iranian officials have been targeted. Analysts say the loss of such a senior figure could further destabilise Iran’s leadership structure and provoke a strong response from Tehran.

The circumstances surrounding the strike highlight growing concerns over the widening scope of the confrontation, with fears of further escalation across the Middle East.

Iran has yet to outline its next steps, but officials have previously warned of decisive retaliation following attacks on its leadership.
