Russia is stepping up military support to Iran by providing satellite intelligence and upgraded drone technology aimed at improving Tehran’s ability to target United States and allied forces in the Middle East, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

The report, citing officials familiar with the matter, says Moscow has shared detailed satellite imagery and enhanced components for attack drones, significantly boosting Iran’s targeting precision and operational effectiveness.

The cooperation marks a deepening of military ties between the two countries, which have grown closer since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Analysts say the latest support reflects a strategic alignment, with both nations seeking to counter US influence while benefiting from shared battlefield experience.

Russia is also believed to be transferring lessons learned from its war in Ukraine, including tactics for deploying drones to overwhelm air defences and disable radar systems ahead of strikes.

Officials say the intelligence-sharing has already enhanced Iran’s ability to identify and strike targets across the Gulf region, including key military infrastructure.

Moscow has denied providing direct targeting assistance, even as US officials acknowledge an increase in cooperation, noting that it has not significantly undermined American military operations in the region.

The development comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, with Iran increasingly deploying drones and missiles in confrontations involving US and allied forces.

Experts warn that the growing Russia-Iran partnership could further destabilise the region, raising concerns about a widening conflict and the emergence of more coordinated military strategies between Washington’s adversaries.
