Orphanages across Nigeria have commended the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi, following the recruitment of 27 qualified orphans into the nation’s domestic intelligence agency.
The beneficiaries, drawn from different orphanages and academic disciplines across the country, were reportedly enlisted after meeting the Service’s recruitment requirements, a development widely described by orphanage operators as a landmark gesture of inclusion and equal opportunity.
Managers of several orphanages said the recruitment has restored hope to many young Nigerians who grew up without parental care, noting that the initiative demonstrates that competence and merit can create opportunities regardless of one’s background.
They praised Ajayi for what they described as a compassionate and visionary leadership approach, saying the decision offers deserving orphans a chance to build meaningful careers while contributing to national security.
The development has also been welcomed by child welfare advocates, who say the recruitment sends a strong message that vulnerable members of society should not be excluded from opportunities to serve the nation when they possess the required qualifications.
