Nigerian singer and songwriter Seyi Shay has revealed that her four-year break from the music scene was a deliberate and transformative journey aimed at self-discovery and spiritual growth.
Speaking in an interview with Chude Jideonwo, the award-winning artist described the hiatus as a defining moment that reshaped her mindset, emotional balance, and outlook on life.
“I have done so much work over these past four years. The transformation of my mind started before I had my child. I started a journey of isolation,” she said.
Reflecting on her time away from the spotlight, Seyi Shay noted that solitude helped her reconnect with her inner self, describing it as a “gift” that allowed her to gain clarity, strength, and purpose.
There is something really good about isolation… I was blessed with hindsight, insight, and foresight, and I think that is the biggest gift besides my daughter that God has given me these few years,” she added.
The “Right Now” crooner explained that the decision to step away from the industry was not driven by burnout or controversy but by a personal need to realign her spirit and values before returning to music.
Seyi Shay also spoke about how her spirituality has evolved, influencing how she now relates to people, especially men.
“My spirituality has also transformed, and I am vibrating on such a different level now that I actually feel very comfortable with men. I love all the men. It is a man’s world,” she said with a smile.
Her remarks have sparked conversations online, with many fans praising her for her honesty and depth. Some have interpreted her statement as a reflection of maturity and acceptance of life’s realities in the entertainment industry.
Seyi Shay’s last major music project was released in 2021, after which she focused on her personal life and motherhood. She hinted that her new phase would inspire her next musical chapter, marked by authenticity and renewed purpose.
