The Nigerian Senate has categorically refuted media reports alleging a rift within its leadership, particularly between Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele. The claims, which suggested a heated confrontation during a recent executive session to discuss the Senate’s annual recess, have been branded as baseless and misleading.

In a statement issued by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, the Senate clarified that such reports were entirely devoid of truth. “The allegations misconstrue the time-honoured practices of parliamentary discourse, where robust debates and rigorous scrutiny are integral to decision-making,” Senator Adaramodu stated.

He emphasised that the Senate, as Nigeria’s foremost legislative body, subjects every bill, motion, and proposal to thorough examination. “Our members, irrespective of political affiliations, engage in constructive debates to ensure decisions reflect the best interests of over 230 million Nigerians. These discussions, whether in the chamber or committee rooms, should not be mistaken for discord or division within our ranks,” he added.

The Senate’s statement underscores its commitment to unity and purposeful governance, dismissing any notion of internal strife as a misrepresentation of its deliberative process.
