A contentious pronouncement by Primate Babatunde Elijah Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has ignited debate across political and social media circles in Nigeria after the cleric claimed that President Bola Tinubu has “listed” senior security chiefs, including the Comptroller-General of Customs and the Controller-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NCoS), for possible sacking. The allegation was made during a public address on Friday, stirring fresh controversy around the administration’s internal dynamics and security leadership.

In a statement circulated through his office, Ayodele warned the security chiefs that they were under scrutiny and under threat of removal at the behest of the presidency — a claim that, if accurate, would mark an unusual and highly public rift between a religious figure and key government institutions.

The spiritual leader, who has in recent years gained notoriety for his forecasts about political realignments and leadership changes, framed his remarks around what he described as divine insight into the future composition of Nigeria’s security architecture. These assertions come amid broader predictions he has previously made about shake-ups within the nation’s security and political hierarchy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The comments from Primate Ayodele have sparked mixed reactions online: some supporters argue that his prophetic warnings resonate with ongoing conversations about accountability within public offices, while critics have dismissed such claims as speculative and politically charged, arguing that public prophecy should not influence perceptions of constitutional governance.

So far, there has been no official confirmation from the presidency or the affected security agencies regarding plans to remove the Customs or NCoS chiefs. Government spokespeople have not responded directly to the allegations at the time of publication.

Political analysts say that such public disputes, particularly involving influential clerics and senior government figures, reflect broader tensions within Nigeria’s political fabric as the nation approaches a crucial electoral cycle. Observers note that leadership stability in security institutions is often a subject of intense focus due to its implications for national safety and public trust.

As the story continues to develop, it is likely to fuel further discussion about the role of religious commentary in political affairs and the public’s expectations of transparency from both spiritual and government leaders.
