Rwanda’s national football team, the Amavubi, are set to face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in a key Group C clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo. Head coach Adel Amrouche has announced a streamlined 24-man squad, carefully selected to maximise the team’s chances on Nigerian soil.
“We have chosen a compact, well-organised group capable of handling Nigeria’s speed and physicality,” Amrouche said, highlighting the tactical focus behind his decisions. The squad blends seasoned internationals with promising young talent, aiming to balance defensive rigour, midfield control, and sharp attacking play.
Goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwali of Kaizer Chiefs and captain Djihadi Bizimana from Al Ahly Tripoli will be pivotal figures, expected to lead the team’s defensive line. The squad includes players across various clubs, such as Clement Buhake, Pierre Ishimwe, Ange Mutsinzi, and midfielder Bonheur Mugisha, who bring valuable experience and versatility.
Notable omissions include Bedford Town’s Claude Smith Kayibanda, Djabilu Ishimwe, and David Niyo, who were dropped due to fitness and tactical reasons. Amrouche emphasised that finalising the squad was a challenging process aimed at ensuring the team’s readiness for the qualifiers.
“The match in Uyo is a significant test for us,” Amrouche added. “A positive result will improve our standing in the group and provide vital momentum for the campaign ahead.”
