-Asks Governor Fubara to Submit Commissioner Nominees

The Rivers State House of Assembly has commenced an investigation into the state’s finances during the six-month tenure of Ibok-Ete Ibas as the sole administrator.

The resolution was passed during a plenary session held on Thursday morning, marking the first sitting of the Assembly since the emergency rule in the state was lifted. The lawmakers have also asked Governor Siminalayi Fubara to submit his list of commissioner nominees for screening.

The lifting of the emergency rule was announced by President Bola Tinubu on September 17, which led to the reinstatement of all democratic structures in the state.

The session, presided over by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, took place at a conference hall within the legislative quarters. The permanent Assembly complex was demolished months ago by the state government.

President Tinubu had declared a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18 to resolve a political crisis stemming from the protracted rift between Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The declaration led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and the state’s legislators. During this period, Ibok-Ete Ibas was appointed as the sole administrator.
