The Plateau State Government has pushed back strongly against another round of speculation suggesting that Governor Caleb Mutfwang has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the Young Progressives Party.
The clarification came on Friday through a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Dr Gyang Bere, who described the claim as a deliberate falsehood.
Bere said the story was “a blatant lie, a shameless concoction peddled by desperate mischief makers” whose intention is to sow confusion and distract the public.
According to him, the governor remains firmly focused on his mandate and has not moved to any political platform.
“Governor Mutfwang has not defected to the Young Progressives Party,” he said. “Whenever there is any change in status, be assured that Governor Mutfwang will utilise official and verified communication channels to inform the people of Plateau State and all well-wishers.”
The government also urged residents to ignore the rumour and concentrate on supporting ongoing development programmes across the state.
“We urge supporters, well-wishers, and all patriotic citizens of Plateau State to disregard this falsehood in its entirety,” the statement read. “Remain steadfast, vigilant, and united in the collective mission of safeguarding and advancing the Plateau project.”
Bere added that the administration remains stable, noting that “under Governor Mutfwang’s purposeful and visionary leadership, Plateau State remains safe, stable, and steadily rising brighter, stronger, and more resilient.”
Rumours about Mutfwang’s alleged defection have circulated for months, splitting opinions among some APC members who have been quick to speculate on the governor’s next political direction. But the governor, elected on the platform of the PDP, has repeatedly dismissed the talks.
He restated on Friday that he remains in the party.
