Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered and dismantled a multi-billion-naira methamphetamine production laboratory, arresting a Mexican national and four Nigerian suspects in one of the agency’s most significant operations against organised drug trafficking.
The raid, carried out following weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance, led operatives to a clandestine facility allegedly used for the large-scale production of methamphetamine intended for both local distribution and international markets. Authorities recovered substantial quantities of the illicit drug, precursor chemicals, sophisticated laboratory equipment and other materials used in its manufacture.
NDLEA officials said the arrest of the Mexican suspect highlights the growing involvement of transnational criminal networks in Nigeria’s illegal drug trade, raising concerns over the increasing sophistication of narcotics operations in the country.
The agency described the operation as a major breakthrough in its ongoing campaign to disrupt drug cartels and dismantle illicit manufacturing hubs. Investigators are now working to uncover the wider network behind the operation and identify other individuals linked to the syndicate.
The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations and strengthening collaboration with international partners to combat drug trafficking and organised crime.
Authorities said the suspects will face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations, stressing that the agency remains determined to rid the country of illicit drug networks that threaten public health and national security.
