Former United States President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, saying Washington would intervene if Iranian security forces “shoot and violently kill peaceful protesters”.
In a statement posted late Tuesday, Trump declared that the United States was “locked and loaded and ready to go”, signalling a potential shift towards a more forceful posture amid rising tensions inside Iran.
His remarks come as fresh demonstrations spread across several Iranian cities, with activists accusing authorities of using heavy-handed tactics to suppress dissent. While no official casualty figures have been released, human rights groups say the situation remains volatile.
Trump, who has frequently criticised Tehran’s leadership, framed the warning as a defence of civil liberties and a message of solidarity with Iranian protesters.
“If Iran shoots and violently kills peaceful protesters…the United States of America will come to their rescue,” he said.
Iranian officials have not immediately responded to Trump’s comments, but state media has previously dismissed foreign reactions to domestic protests as “interference”.
The United States government has also not clarified whether Trump’s statement reflects current official policy, given his status as a former president. However, his comments have already sparked discussion among analysts about the potential for renewed US–Iran tensions.
For now, the protests continue, and the international community is watching closely to see whether the situation escalates — and whether Washington’s warning signals a new phase in the long-strained relationship between the two countries.
