The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, reaffirming the existing National Working Committee (NWC) zoning structure ahead of its November elective national convention. This decision was reached during the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on August 25, 2025.
Debo Ologunagba, PDP National Publicity Secretary, disclosed that the zoning recommendation followed a report by the Zoning Committee chaired by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri. He noted, “NEC recommended that the North and South should retain their current NWC positions. Since the National Chairman of the party is zoned to the North, the PDP 2027 Presidential ticket is hereby zoned to the South.”
The NEC also expressed satisfaction with the preparations for the national convention slated for November 15-16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The zoning decision comes at a critical juncture for the PDP, which has faced internal challenges and shifting loyalties amid the rise of rival parties like the African Democratic Congress. PDP’s push to zone the presidency to the South adheres to the party’s longstanding practice of balancing key positions across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
