A fresh rift has emerged within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as its governors and the camp of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, clash over key leadership positions.

At the centre of the dispute are the offices of the National Chairman and National Secretary of the party. Sources close to the PDP revealed that the governors are leaning towards former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, as a possible choice for National Chairman.

However, Wike’s faction is said to be pushing for former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, to clinch the top seat. The tussle reflects deeper divisions over the party’s direction ahead of the 2027 general elections, with both blocs seeking to consolidate influence within the opposition.

Party insiders warn that unless a consensus is reached, the contest could further fracture the PDP, already struggling to reposition itself after its poor showing in the 2023 elections.
