Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced an immediate investigation into a tragic stampede that occurred during a carnival in Ibadan, the state capital, early Wednesday morning. Reports indicate that several children lost their lives in the incident, prompting widespread concern and grief.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media platform X, Governor Makinde expressed his condolences to the families affected by this devastating event. He confirmed that the organizers of the carnival have been arrested and assured the public that those responsible for the tragedy will face prosecution.

“This is a very sad day for us here in Oyo State,” the governor stated. “We sympathize with the parents whose joy has suddenly turned to mourning due to these deaths.”

To prevent further casualties, the governor’s administration has deployed security personnel to restore order at the event venue, Islamic High School Basorun. Medical teams and ambulances have also been dispatched to assist the injured, and the event has been officially halted. Attendees are being escorted safely from the site as authorities work to secure the area.
