The election took place on Monday during the state congress at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan, with party stakeholders, ward and local government executives, and delegates from all 33 councils in attendance.

Other key officers elected at the congress include Hon. Oyelami Oyeyemi Joel as state secretary, Hon. Yusuf Adekunle as senatorial chairman for Oyo North, Alhaji Kamorudeen Adeyemi for Oyo South, and Hon. Oludayo Opatokun for Oyo Central. Micheal Ogunsina was elected state publicity secretary, Hon. Kazeem Olalekan Bello as state youth leader, and Mrs. Toyin Olaniran as state women leader, among others.

Governor Seyi Makinde, addressing the gathering, commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise across all levels, noting that it reflected the party’s culture of internal democracy.

“This exercise is to ensure that the PDP continues to remain in power in Oyo State beyond 2027,” the governor said.

He charged the new executives with the responsibility of consolidating PDP’s dominance in the state while also working towards reclaiming the presidency in the 2027 general elections.

“The executives that will emerge from this exercise; your mandate is clear — deliver PDP from the presidential to the councillorship position in 2027,” Makinde declared.

The governor also reassured members still waiting for government appointments that they had not been sidelined.

“Those who are yet to get something from this government will be reached soon,” he assured.

Party leaders at the congress pledged loyalty to the new state executive, expressing optimism that the PDP would retain its stronghold in Oyo and remain a decisive force nationally.
