Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke announced that his administration has eliminated the controversial “security vote” system, opting instead for transparent financial support to security agencies.

The move, detailed in a statement released Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, underscores Adeleke’s commitment to fiscal accountability amid Nigeria’s economic challenges.

Unlike the opaque slush funds often associated with security votes, Adeleke’s administration channels its security expenditures through a rigorous public finance framework.

These funds, processed with statutory approvals, have supported critical operations, including backing for state security outfit Amotekun, interventions in communal crises, and peace-building initiatives across Osun State.

“I am proud to declare that Osun State under my leadership does not operate a slush fund” Adeleke said.

He acknowledged the resistance to his policy but emphasizing its necessity.

“Every kobo is vital to addressing our developmental challenges,”Osun Governor said .

Since taking office in November 2022, Adeleke has prioritized channeling Osun’s federal allocations and internally generated revenue into key sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, and healthcare.

His administration has also tackled workers’ salaries, pensions, and outstanding debts while maintaining a delicate balance between human and capital projects.

Adeleke credited the creation of a special projects account with ensuring the timely completion of ongoing initiatives, even as the state grapples with the seizure of local government funds.

“We remain focused on delivering for the people of Osun,” he said.
