former Sokoto State Governor and Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal electrified thousands of supporters Friday, rallying them for a political battle to unseat Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. The senator’s return to Sokoto metropolis, greeted by roaring crowds from Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states, signaled a bold challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Tambuwal, a political heavyweight and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, led a vibrant procession of party loyalists, women’s groups, and youth organizations. Supporters waved banners and chanted slogans, projecting confidence in their mission to reclaim power from the APC. Political analysts described the event as a calculated show of strength ahead of the 2027 polls.
Delivering a blistering critique of Tinubu’s leadership, Tambuwal accused the APC-led government of plunging Nigeria into economic turmoil, rampant insecurity, and political decay. “In 2023, we warned Nigerians against voting for Tinubu, whose leadership has dragged our nation into hardship, hunger, and hopelessness,” Tambuwal declared to thunderous applause. “The evidence is clear—Nigeria deserves better.”
The senator, who served as Director General of Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, called for a united front to “send APC and Tinubu packing” in 2027. “We will mobilize every corner of this country,” he vowed. “The ADC and our allies will not be silenced or intimidated. The suffering of Nigerians must end.”
Tambuwal also dismissed recent scrutiny from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a politically motivated smear campaign. Addressing allegations of mismanaging Sokoto State funds, he called the claims “blatant lies,” questioning the plausibility of withdrawing over ₦2 billion monthly from the state’s budget. “I visited the EFCC voluntarily and was released on self-recognition as a Commander of the Federal Republic,” he said. “Their fake panels will find nothing because the truth always prevails.”
The senator accused Sokoto’s state government of orchestrating a witch-hunt, pointing to a fruitless inquiry last year that cleared him of wrongdoing. “No amount of intimidation will shake me,” Tambuwal asserted, reinforcing his resolve to lead the charge against the APC.
