Former Secretary to the Osun State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, has resigned from the Omoluabi Progressives, the Rauf Aregbesola-led caucus inside the African Democratic Congress, dealing a fresh blow to the group’s preparations for the 2026 governorship election.

Adeoti, who served as SSG throughout Aregbesola’s eight-year tenure and was the former governor’s preferred candidate in the 2022 APC primary, announced his withdrawal in a letter dated November 30, 2025.

In the letter addressed to the chairman of Omoluabi Progressives, Adeoti said the decision was painful but necessary, citing pressure from his family to take a break from active politics after years of service.

Multiple sources within the group, however, told Observers Times that Adeoti stepped aside after failing to secure the caucus’ backing for the forthcoming ADC governorship primary.

According to insiders, the Omoluabi apex leaders held a meeting in Lagos over the weekend where three aspirants  Adeoti, former Speaker Dr Najeem Salaam, and Senator Adelere Oriolowo  were presented.

In a secret ballot, Salaam polled 11 votes, Adeoti three, and Oriolowo one, effectively ending Adeoti’s hope of flying the group’s flag.

Publicity Secretary of Omoluabi Progressives and Director of Media for Osun ADC, Oluwaseun Abosede, confirmed the development but expressed disappointment.

“We are not happy he left, but we are not angry either. This is becoming a pattern with Alhaji Adeoti whenever the system does not favour him 100 per cent, he pulls away,” Abosede said.

He recalled that a similar thing happened in 2018 when Adeoti also stepped down after President Bola Tinubu rejected his candidacy for the APC ticket.

Adeoti was actively involved in the formal launch of ADC in Osun just last Tuesday in Osogbo, making his sudden exit even more surprising to many members.
