The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Toyota Hilux vehicle to the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security outfit established by Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Igboho.
The monarch announced the donation as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots security initiatives aimed at tackling crime and improving the safety of communities across the South-West.
According to the Ooni, the financial support and operational vehicle are intended to enhance the capacity of the security network in carrying out surveillance, intelligence gathering and other community policing activities.
The Iru Ekun Security Network was launched by Sunday Igboho as a locally driven security initiative focused on complementing existing security efforts in areas facing growing concerns over insecurity.
The donation is expected to provide a significant boost to the outfit’s operations, particularly in logistics and mobility, while underscoring increasing support from traditional institutions for community-based security initiatives.
The development comes amid continued calls by stakeholders for stronger collaboration between traditional rulers, local vigilante groups and government security agencies to address security challenges in different parts of the country.
Neither the Ooni’s palace nor representatives of the Iru Ekun Security Network immediately disclosed whether additional support or future partnerships are planned.
