At the annual Toto Development Association (TODA) congress meeting today, the National president Alhji. Dr. Muhammed Maikaya, emphasized the need for the community to understand the risks associated with allowing private companies to supply electricity.
Dr. Maikaya pointed out that the National Grid is already available in Toto Local Government, making it unnecessary for the community to pay more to private companies like Power Gen for 20 years.
He noted that a single unit of electricity from Power Gen costs almost #500, while NEPA charges less than #50.
The National President solicited the support of the masses to fight for their right for affordable electricity.
The people unanimously responded with a united voice, “GO AND FIGHT FOR US.” The Executive Body of TODA assured the community of their committed effort to ensure positive development.
The meeting aside from unearthing to residents the risk associated to contracting a private power supply company discussed wide range of issues such as Employment and Empowerment, the need for employment opportunities, empowerment programs, and skills development initiatives.
Other key points of discussions include Infrastructure Development like more access roads in the community and establishment of a Project and Monitoring Committee:
Contributing the National Youth Council of Nigeria Toto Local Government Chapter Chairman, Comr Musa Mansir Bashir , called on TODA to support Mr. Mohammed Adamu, who suffered a spinal cord injury after falling from a mango tree.
The meeting concluded with a call for action, urging members to support TODA.
