In a recent interview with The Sun Newspaper, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, weighed in on the political scene, confidently predicting that President Bola Tinubu is set to win the 2027 election, no matter who the opposition might be. Basiru’s remarks stressed the significance of getting people on board, rather than relying on emotional arguments, in the quest for votes.

When the Adamawa campaign was brought up, Basiru highlighted the APC’s proactive methods, contrasting them with what he saw as a lack of genuine campaigning from other parties. “Politics thrives on getting people involved, not on feelings,” Basiru remarked. He highlighted the party’s dedication to getting out there and being active, noting the heavy involvement of the national chairman and other NWC members in campaigning. He also has faith that any complaints against President Tinubu won’t translate into a loss of votes.

Basiru brushed off the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a real threat, citing internal problems within the party. He claimed that those who present themselves as protem officers are not legally recognized. Basiru further suggested that these individuals might face legal repercussions for falsely representing party leadership.

As for the 2027 presidential election, Basiru quoted Ali Modu Sheriff, who pointed out that Tinubu’s only obstacles to victory would be if there wasn’t an election or if he chose not to run. Basiru downplayed the credibility of potential challengers, reminding everyone of past electoral defeats.

Basiru also touched upon the inner workings of the APC, especially in Ekiti State. He stated that anyone with even a basic understanding would know there’s no room for change, given the governor’s performance. He stressed that the party will hold primary elections, but the electorate’s choice will reflect the governor’s accomplishments.

Basiru clarified his stance on the possibility of Governor Adeleke joining the APC. He denied that he was preventing such a move, stating that the decision is up to the party leadership. Basiru affirmed his loyalty to President Tinubu, saying, “I am completely devoted to President Tinubu, and I follow him without question.”
