Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has filed money laundering charges against the immediate past Managing Director of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), Ahmed Adamu Dikko, and his counterpart at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC), Jimoh Olasunkanmi Yisawu.
The charges stem from allegations that funds allocated for the rehabilitation of Nigeria’s long-struggling state-owned refineries were unlawfully diverted.
The case marks the latest move by the EFCC as it intensifies investigations into the management of billions of naira earmarked for the refurbishment of the country’s moribund refining infrastructure, a project that has faced years of delays despite significant public expenditure.
The defendants are expected to answer the charges in court. The EFCC has not yet released further details on the specific sums allegedly involved or the timeline of the alleged offences.
