The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has suspended former governor and current senator for Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, along with his ally Kunle Folarin, due to allegations of anti-party misconduct.
This decision, announced on Tuesday, follows findings from internal disciplinary committees investigating their actions within the party.
The suspension came after the State Working Committee meeting, where party officials, led by state chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi, reviewed reports from local disciplinary committees.
These committees were set up by Ward 4 and Ward 6 of Sagamu Local Government to probe accusations against Daniel and Folarin. Both individuals are members of the APC, representing their respective wards in Sagamu.
According to the statement issued by Nuberu Olufemi, the APC’s state publicity director, the investigation was prompted by claims of misconduct that included anti-party activities. Ward 4’s committee looked into alleged wrongdoings by Senator Gbenga Daniel, while Ward 6 investigated Hon. Kunle Folarin’s conduct.
Despite being invited to the disciplinary meetings and offered the chance to present a defence or seek pardon, both Daniel and Folarin failed to respond to these invitations. They also failed to attend the meetings or submit any written explanations regarding the allegations against them.
Further complicating the situation, both men were reportedly involved in intimidating party members, pressuring them to withdraw petitions against them. This behaviour, along with their refusal to cooperate with the investigation, prompted the committees to suspend them indefinitely, pending further inquiry.
The suspension was ratified by the State Working Committee, which emphasized the party’s commitment to upholding discipline and its constitutional integrity.
