Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has declared his intention to contest Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, insisting that a transparent electoral process would dramatically reshape the country’s political landscape.
Speaking on the prospects of the next general election, Obi expressed confidence in his party’s strength, stating that it could secure as many as 30 governorship seats if the polls are conducted freely and fairly.
“You see, this 2027 election, I will be running for president. If you would like to have 30 governors in your party, let the election be free and fair,” Obi said.
The remarks are likely to intensify political debate ahead of the 2027 elections, as discussions over electoral reforms, democratic accountability, and the credibility of Nigeria’s voting process continue to dominate national discourse.
