The National Executive Committee of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has ratified the appointment of Bala Mohammed as acting national chairman.
Mr Mohammed’s appointment was confirmed at the party’s 11th NEC meeting on Saturday in Abuja.
The appointment followed the resignation of the former National Chairman, Dr Ajuji Ahmed.
The NEC also ratified the results of primary elections conducted nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It further approved the appointment of acting state chairmen for Ogun, Delta, Nasarawa, and Cross River states to strengthen the party’s structures.
In his welcome address, the National Secretary of the NNPP, Dipo Olayoku, said the meeting marked the culmination of preparations leading to the 2027 polls.
Mr Olayoku said the party’s electoral process began from the ward, local government and state levels, where members elected candidates to fly the NNPP flag.
He recalled that the party ratified its congress in December 2025, noting that despite challenges, the NNPP had remained resilient and focused.
According to him, the meeting was convened in compliance with the relevant provisions of the Electoral Act to ratify the outcomes of primary elections nationwide.
He said the party’s performance in the 2023 general elections had elevated its profile, producing its first governor and federal lawmakers.
Mr Olayoku commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its commitment to democratic principles and expressed confidence in its leadership and capacity.
He said the party adopted the consensus method for its primaries and thanked state chairmen, executives and members for their sacrifices and commitment.
He also acknowledged that some elected officials had left the party through political realignments, but urged members to remain steadfast and focused on improving future electoral outcomes.
