Nigeria’s federal government spent N3.41 trillion on debt servicing in the third quarter of 2025, according to the Budget Office of the Federation, underscoring the country’s growing fiscal burden amid mounting economic pressures.

In its latest 2025 Q3 Macroeconomic and Financial Analysis Report, the Budget Office said the amount spent was N171.9 billion lower than the projected N3.58 trillion for the period, representing a 4.8 percent shortfall against estimates.

The report highlights the continued strain of debt obligations on government finances, even as authorities push ahead with economic reforms aimed at stabilising public revenue and reducing fiscal deficits.

Nigeria has faced rising concerns over debt sustainability in recent years, with a significant portion of government revenue increasingly channelled towards servicing both domestic and external borrowings.
