A Nigerian public affairs commentator has called for stronger investment in the country’s police force and other security agencies, stressing the need for deliberate action to improve national safety.
Speaking on the state of security, Chidi Omeje said authorities must prioritise equipping and empowering law enforcement institutions beyond the military.
“We have to be intentional about making sure that the other security agencies, especially the police, should be equipped, should be empowered, should be capacitated,” he said.
Nigeria has faced persistent security challenges ranging from banditry and kidnapping to insurgency in several regions, placing increasing pressure on security institutions. Analysts say the police force, often criticised for inadequate funding and manpower, remains central to addressing everyday crime and restoring public confidence.
Calls for comprehensive reform and improved resourcing of law enforcement have intensified in recent years, as citizens and experts urge the government to adopt a more balanced, multi-agency approach to national security.
