A fresh wave of debate has emerged online after a bold claim suggested that the president of Nigeria holds more practical power than the president of the United States.
The assertion, made by social media commentator @francutoo, argues that Nigeria’s leader exercises sweeping control over the country’s political and security structures. According to the post, this level of authority means the president has the capacity to tackle many of the nation’s challenges, should the political will exist.
The claim has since triggered mixed reactions, with supporters pointing to Nigeria’s highly centralised governance and strong executive influence over security agencies and federal institutions. Critics, however, argue that power is shaped not only by formal authority but also by institutional checks, democratic traditions and public accountability.
The comparison highlights broader conversations about executive power, governance, and the role of political institutions in different democratic systems.
