– Nigeria’s federal government has made public a list of 15 individuals it alleges are involved in financing terrorist activities across the country, marking one of the most significant disclosures in the nation’s counterterrorism efforts in recent years.

The publication, released on Monday through official government channels, includes the names of individuals authorities claim have provided material or financial support to armed groups operating mainly in the northern region. The government says the move is aimed at increasing transparency and strengthening ongoing legal proceedings.

Officials from the Ministry of Justice said the list emerged from months of joint investigations conducted by national security agencies in collaboration with international partners. According to authorities, evidence gathered has already been forwarded to relevant courts to initiate or accelerate prosecutions.

However, civil society groups and legal experts have urged caution, warning against trial by media and emphasizing the rights of the accused to fair hearings. Human rights advocates say the government must ensure due process and avoid actions that may undermine public trust.

Security analysts note that the release of the list could signal a shift toward more aggressive public accountability measures in Nigeria’s multi-front battle against insurgency, banditry, and extremist financing networks.

The federal government has promised to release further investigative details “in due course” while urging citizens to remain vigilant and support ongoing security reforms.
