Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has confirmed that a recent kidnapping incident in Oyo State was carried out by terrorists linked to Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS), a faction historically associated with insurgent violence in the country’s northeast.

Military authorities said security forces have intensified operations targeting fleeing armed groups and insurgent networks across the country, vowing sustained offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist hideouts and preventing further attacks.

The confirmation marks a significant development, as it signals the continued spread and operational reach of extremist groups beyond Nigeria’s traditional conflict zones.

According to the Defence Headquarters, troops are currently conducting coordinated operations in several regions as part of broader efforts to curb kidnapping, banditry and terrorism.

The military also reassured residents that operations against armed groups would continue until those responsible are captured and security threats neutralised.
