Nigeria is set to officially launch FreeTV on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, marking a significant step in the country’s digital broadcasting transition by providing millions of households with free access to digital television services.

The national digital television platform is designed to deliver high-quality digital broadcasts without monthly subscription fees, giving viewers access to a wider range of television channels, improved picture and sound quality, and a stronger lineup of locally produced Nigerian content.

Officials say the initiative aims to expand access to information, education and entertainment while promoting Nigeria’s creative industry and accelerating the country’s migration to digital broadcasting.

With the launch of FreeTV, households equipped with compatible digital television sets or decoders will be able to enjoy free-to-air digital channels, reducing reliance on paid television services and widening access to quality broadcasting across the country.

The rollout is expected to strengthen media accessibility, encourage local content production and bring digital television services to more Nigerians, particularly in underserved communities.
