Nigeria and Finland have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the digital sector, with a focus on innovation and digital transformation.
The agreement was signed in Abuja by Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, and Finland’s Under-Secretary of State for International Trade, Jarno Syrjälä.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Embassy of Finland in Nigeria, the MoU establishes a framework for collaboration in key areas such as digital government, emerging technologies, cybersecurity, digital public infrastructure, innovation ecosystems, and capacity building.
Both nations affirmed that the partnership seeks to harness digital transformation as a catalyst for economic growth, improve public service delivery, and foster inclusive innovation.
Minister Tijani described the agreement as a pivotal moment in advancing the bilateral relationship. “Today’s MoU signing marks an important step in strengthening the partnership between both countries as we work to build a more inclusive, innovation-driven digital economy,” he said.
He noted that the collaboration builds on previous engagements in Helsinki, where discussions with key institutions centered on digital infrastructure and areas for mutual cooperation.
