The Labour Party (LP) has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region of Nigeria, a decision the party’s leadership says is final.
Acting National Chairperson, Senator Nenadi Usman, confirmed the resolution on Tuesday during an interview with journalists in Abuja. According to her, the party will not entertain any aspirant from the northern part of the country for the presidency.
“We have one certain decision that we have taken, and that is that we will certainly not field any aspirant from northern Nigeria,” Usman stated. “We have zoned the position to Southern Nigeria. So if any northerner comes now to want to contest elections, we certainly will not accept that.”
The zoning arrangement is expected to shape the party’s internal processes ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the Labour Party seeks to build on its strong showing in the 2023 presidential poll.
