Officials of the Nigeria Customs Service have handed over several luxury vehicles stolen from Canada after intercepting them at the Tin Can Island Port in what authorities described as a significant blow to transnational auto theft syndicates.
The vehicles, believed to have been smuggled into Nigeria through international trafficking networks, were recovered during a customs operation targeting illicit automobile imports at the Lagos port facility.
Customs officials said the seizure highlights growing collaboration between Nigerian authorities and international law enforcement agencies in combating cross-border vehicle theft and organised smuggling operations.
Authorities described the interception as a major success in efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in the illegal shipment of stolen luxury automobiles across continents.
The recovered vehicles are expected to be processed in line with international recovery and repatriation procedures as investigations into the trafficking ring continue.
