The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has proposed a power-sharing arrangement aimed at keeping Nigeria’s fractured opposition united ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The proposal comes amid rising concerns within opposition ranks that competing ambitions for the presidency could spark divisions after party primaries, weakening chances of mounting a strong challenge against incumbents.

According to the party, the shared-power framework is designed to balance interests across key political blocs, reduce internal tensions, and foster cohesion in the lead-up to the vote. While details of the arrangement have not been fully disclosed, the move signals an early attempt to manage rivalry among aspirants.

Nigeria’s opposition landscape has historically struggled with post-primary disputes, often leading to defections and splinter groups that dilute electoral strength.

With the 2027 race still some distance away, the ADC’s initiative underscores growing urgency among opposition figures to avoid past pitfalls and present a more unified front.
