The presidential campaign organisation of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate, Seyi Makinde, and his running mate, Lawal Daura, has begun a series of zonal town hall meetings as part of its grassroots mobilisation ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
The campaign says the meetings will be held across the country’s six geopolitical zones and will provide an opportunity for citizens and key stakeholders to discuss issues affecting the country.
Anthony Ehilebo, Mr Makinde’s Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication, announced the programme during a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday.
He said the initiative was part of the campaign’s wider nationwide consultation and grassroots mobilisation programme.
The first meeting is scheduled to take place in Katsina, in the North-West, on Tuesday, 22 September.
The campaign will then move to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for the South-South meeting on 25 September, followed by Lafia, Nasarawa State, for the North-Central meeting on 28 September.
The South-East town hall is scheduled to take place in Enugu on 30 September, while dates for the North-East and South-West meetings are expected to be announced later. (Punch Newspapers)
According to Mr Ehilebo, the engagements will be “issue-based and citizen-driven”, with discussions expected to focus on national stability and the welfare of Nigerians.
The campaign’s central message is “Reset Nigeria”, which it says is aimed at promoting accessible and accountable leadership, transparency in the management of public resources and greater attention to citizens’ concerns.
“Our campaign belongs to the people. Our message is to reset Nigeria to a nation that truly works for all,” Mr Ehilebo said.
He also claimed that the Makinde-Daura campaign was gaining support across different parts of the country and described it as a growing grassroots movement.
The campaign pointed to recent off-cycle elections and the APM’s reported victory in a Bauchi State House of Assembly by-election as examples of what it described as growing support for the party. (Premium Times)
The town hall meetings come as political parties and presidential contenders intensify consultations and preparations ahead of the 2027 elections.
The APM campaign said the meetings would allow citizens and stakeholders to raise issues affecting their communities and contribute to discussions around its proposed political agenda.
