Armed bandits opened fire on travellers along the Kontagora–Tegina highway, leaving a serving magistrate and one other passenger injured.
The attack occurred at about 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, 10 September, near Tudun-Fulani village, when a commercial Toyota Corolla (registration number MAK 238 XA) conveying passengers from Minna to Kontagora ran into the armed men.
According to eyewitnesses, the bandits, who were crossing the road while shooting indiscriminately, struck two passengers — Mr Zakari Benjamin, Chief Magistrate of Rijau Magistrate Court, and Mr Samaila Yusha’u. Both sustained gunshot wounds to their right legs.
Security operatives were swiftly deployed to the scene, while the injured victims were evacuated to General Hospital, Kontagora, where they are reportedly responding to treatment.
Military and police sources confirmed that efforts are underway to track down the assailants and restore security along the route, which has witnessed repeated incidents of banditry in recent months.
