Security agencies have arrested key leaders of the Kwara State chapter of Miyetti Allah over alleged involvement in kidnapping and the sponsorship of armed bandit groups operating within the state.

Those taken into custody include the state chairman of the organisation, Idris Abubakar, alongside other senior officials. The arrests followed what security sources described as “intelligence-led operations” aimed at dismantling criminal networks blamed for rising insecurity across parts of Kwara.

According to officials familiar with the investigation, the suspects are being questioned over their alleged roles in facilitating kidnappings and providing logistical and financial support to armed groups. The authorities said the arrests form part of a broader crackdown on individuals and organisations suspected of enabling criminal activities in the North-Central region.

While no formal charges have yet been announced, security agencies confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be arraigned in court if sufficient evidence is established. They also assured residents that further arrests may follow as efforts intensify to restore peace and public safety.

Reacting to the development, residents and civil society groups called for a thorough and transparent investigation, urging the government to ensure due process while tackling insecurity decisively.

Miyetti Allah has yet to issue an official statement on the arrests as of the time of filing this report.
